Aerospace Career Fair - This Friday 9/23

September 21, 2011

Join us at the Washington Aerospace Job Opportunity and Career Expo on September 23, 2011.

This free event caters to a "full spectrum" of job seeker today, according to Richard Strand, event organizer.

There are three groups of attendees expected at the event:

  • Skilled people who have the experience and the training who will be job ready;
  • Those without the specific skills, but who have a willingness to receive education and to learn the skills;
  • Those who need help at the base level of navigating the job maze, and how to get a job.

Strand adds that the Career Fair will "bring together a collection of industry and educational entities for job seekers." Because of the scope of the event, say the organizers, it is unique to the area and will offer robust career help for attendees.

Highlights:

  • 37 total exhibitors
  • Free admission
  • Boeing and other companies
  • Skilled workshops
  • Diverse employers/exhibitors
  • 12 or more academic organizations
  • Organizations with real jobs with a focus on the aerospace industry

Strand notes that this is event will be helpful, because it helps to support the pre-identified jobs need across the state. In fact, Strand, along with the Center of Excellence for Aerospace have identified five critical program clusters with a need for skilled employees:

  • Composites Manufacturing
  • Electronics
  • Industrial Manufacturing
  • Machine Tool Technicians
  • Aircraft Mechanics

Strand says that within each of these five clusters, there are hundreds and potentially thousands that will need to be employed in the next 3-5 years to fill positions. The jobs need is will be statewide, and will continue to grow in these cluster areas.

While Boeing will lead in the jobs promotion at the event, there are suppliers to Boeing, and other companies exhibiting as well.

They start young these days...

There may be some little Alex Keaton's running around on Friday as well. Secondary school students, high school age, were invited to attend. It's never too early to get a leg up on your career!

Strand concludes, "It's the first time we've done it - we're excited about the opportunity to connect people who need jobs with those who have jobs."
