Purpose of the Executive Advisory Board
The primary purpose for Executive Advisory Board is to serve as advisors for the Air Washington DOL Grant by providing advocacy, equipment recommendations, curriculum recommendations, and support for quality highly skilled aerospace and advanced manufacturing training programs. Advisory Boards have no administrative or legislative authority.
The clustering of advisory boards is recommended to enable balanced representation while minimizing the burden of excessive meetings.
Please note: All updates regarding the 2011 Department of Labor grant will be published on this page.
Role of the Advisory Board
Advisory Boards have three major roles. They are to advise, assist, and provide support and advocacy for quality career and technical training education.
In an advising role, the advisory board will assess specific areas of the required deliverables of the DOL Grant and the training programs that are developed, formulate suggestions and recommendations designed to improve that specific curriculum. Suggestions and recommendations should be presented formally to the lead college, Spokane Community College and the acting Board Chair. Examples of recommendations could include modification of curriculum content, purchase of new instructional materials or high-tech equipment, adoption of particular industry certifications, and the like.
In an assisting role, the advisory board will help grant administrators carry out specific activities.
In a support and advocacy role, advisory committees promote and advocate the quality of career and technical programs that support a technically skilled workforce throughout the state. Examples include talking to legislators, showing public support for the training programs, and providing valuable feedback.
Organizational Structure
Development of an organizational structure and operating procedures for the advisory board should involve committee members. The structure and procedures are usually developed as part of the committee’s constitution and bylaws. This section outlines areas for committee members to consider as we develop the rules and procedures to govern the operation of the Executive Advisory Board. Included in this section are frequency of meetings, attendance, and terms of service which we will discuss and vote on.
